Flagstone Floor Restoration
Restoring the natural beauty of historic stone floors with heritage craftsmanship and care.
At Flagstone Restoration, led by heritage specialist James Thurtle, we provide full restoration services for original stone floors in listed and period homes. With over 30 years’ experience, James uses traditional conservation methods to bring darkened, lifeless flagstones back to their natural lighter tones.
This isn’t just floor cleaning. Our restoration process carefully removes centuries of dirt and contaminants, repairs unstable joints, and finishes the stone with natural oils and beeswax. The result is a floor that is brighter, breathable, and built to last for generations.
Our Restoration Process
Each restoration is carried out with respect for the building’s history and materials.
1
Preparation & Protection
Rooms are cleared and sealed to minimise dust. Cupboards, doors, and units are protected to reduce final cleaning.
2
Cleaning & Surface Removal
Using dustless mechanical methods, we strip away ingrained dirt, paint, plaster, and wax to reveal the natural tone of the stone beneath.
3
Lime Pointing & Repairs
Old or unstable joints are replaced with a traditional lime-based mix, ensuring the floor remains breathable and true to its heritage construction.
4
Deep Cleaning & Finishing
The stone is deep-cleaned with water to open its pores before being treated with nourishing natural oils and finished with a fine mist of beeswax, hand-polished to a soft, lasting sheen.
