Repairs & Lime Pointing

“We are delighted with the restoration – the flagstones look beautiful. They started to look great after the shot-blasting, but the final polish was the icing on our cake.” – Happy Customer

Preserving Strength, Breathability, and Character

Over time, the joints and mortar between flagstones can deteriorate — often filled or patched with hard cement that prevents the floor from breathing.
At Flagstone Restoration, we specialise in traditional lime pointing and sympathetic stone repair, bringing structural integrity back to your floor while protecting the natural movement and breathability that define historic buildings.

Every mix we use is carefully matched to the age and fabric of your property, ensuring your flagstone floor remains strong, flexible, and true to its original construction.

The Importance of Lime Mortar

Lime mortar has been used for centuries in heritage buildings because it’s breathable, flexible, and durable.
Unlike cement, which traps moisture and can lead to cracking or salt damage, lime allows stone to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.

Our bespoke “Somerset mix” is designed for balance — strong enough to stabilise, soft enough to move, and perfectly matched to the tone of traditional flagstones such as Blue Lias, Hamstone, or Purbeck.

Breathable by Design

Traditional lime mortar allows your floor to breathe naturally, regulating moisture and preventing trapped damp that can damage stone over time.

Durable and Flexible

Unlike cement, lime adapts to natural movement within the building, reducing cracking and helping preserve the structure of historic floors.

Authentic Craftsmanship

Every repair is carried out using hand-mixed lime and sympathetic materials, carefully matched to the age and fabric of your property.

Seamless Finish

Each joint is brushed and finished by hand, creating a soft, natural appearance that blends beautifully with surrounding flagstones.
