About Flagstone Restoration

A Heritage Approach to Flagstone Restoration

I’ve always preferred working with history rather than new builds. For over thirty years, I’ve focused on restoring and repairing older buildings using traditional tools and materials, learning from skilled craftsmen who were generous in sharing their knowledge.

In the 1990s, I studied English and History at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, while working part-time for a restoration company – an experience that soon became a seven-year commitment, restoring period properties across Richmond, Teddington, Chelsea and Putney.

Returning to Somerset in 2000, I worked as Head Mason on the restoration of Langlands Farm House in Kingston, before founding Flagstone Restoration – a business dedicated to the traditional care and conservation of historic stone floors.

Our Philosophy

Every floor tells a story — and our role is to preserve it.
At Flagstone Restoration, we use only authentic, breathable materials such as lime mortar, natural oils, and beeswax finishes. These allow the stone to move and breathe as it was originally intended, protecting the integrity of the building.

Our approach is simple: respect the material, use the right methods, and leave every floor better than we found it.

Respect the Material

Every flagstone floor is unique — we use techniques and materials suited to its age, type, and condition.

Use the Right Methods

We follow conservation-led practices that preserve the floor’s character while enhancing durability.

Restoring with Care

Our restorations aim to improve not just appearance, but the long-term health and breathability of each floor.
